Joseph's Coat of Many Colors Song Review

Joseph's Coat of Many Colors Pin the Note on the Song Review:

I have seen on the Facebook Primary Chorister Page some elaborate Singing Time ideas and some simple Singing Time ideas for Joseph's coat of many colors.  I will be out-of-town for Palm Sunday and Easter/General Conference the following Sunday.  I have decided to keep the Singing Time activity simple this week.  I incorporated Joseph's coat of many colors with reviewing the songs we have learned thus far this year.  I think it will be great since we will not be meeting for two weeks.  I invited the bishop of the ward to come into Primary for Singing Time.

I have also decided to review songs instead of doing an Easter activity.  I did an Easter lesson/activity when I introduced the Easter song the Primary will sing during Sacrament Meeting on Palm Sunday.  I figure they will have an Easter lesson in Primary and also be celebrating Easter at home.

Supplies Needed for Bishop's Coat of Many Colors:

1. The bishop of the ward:  Make sure you communicate with the bishop before Primary on Sunday.  I barely text my bishop today about tomorrow because I am barely coming up with this activity.  It is okay if the bishop can't come in.  Ask one of the bishopric members or one of the Primary teachers then.

2.  Ribbon:  You can order the same ribbon I used here.  Or, you can go to a local store that sales ribbon also.  The ribbon I ordered was plenty to cover the bishop's suit coat.  I will not be making a robe.  We will be taping strips of ribbon just to the bishop's actual coat.  You can make the ribbon longer and have it hang down to the floor if you would rather do that.

3.  Scissors:  I used material scissors.  They cut smoothly and easily through ribbon, but any scissors will do.

4.  Normal scotch tape.  I tested to see if the ribbon would stick to my husband's suit coat and it does stick!  You could also use straight pins, but that would be a lot of work to take them all off.

Supplies Needed for Pin the Tail on the Song:

1.  Picture to represent each song that will be reviewed

2.  Tape

Simple Lesson:

Before you start the activity, ask the children if they know the story about Joseph's coat of many colors.  They should know the story since they will have learned about it in their Primary classes and hopefully at home.  Have them review the story.  Then introduce the singing activity.

Singing Activity:

Tell the children that there is a special guest.  Have the Bishop come to the front of the room.  Point out that the bishop's coat is not colorful like the one Joseph was given.  Tell them that they have the opportunity to make the bishop's coat beautiful with many colors.  Explain to them that the better they sing, the more colorful the bishop's coat will be.

Have a child stand about six feet away from the chalk board or poster with the pictures of the songs.  Blindfold the child.  Do not spin the young children.  You can spin the oldest children to make it more challenging for them.  Have the child pin a note onto the chalkboard.  Sing the song that the note is closest to.

How to Earn Colors:

Each of the following can earn one color each:

*Reverence

*Singing the correct words

*Volume:  No screaming and singing with your heart

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have learned the following songs thus far:

My Heavenly Father Loves Me

I Will Follow God's Plan

Build an Ark

A Child's Prayer

Jesus Said Love Everyone, Kindness Begins with Me, Love One Another (medley)

Jesus Has Risen (Easter)

After the primary sings a song, determine how many colors (ribbons) they are able to place on the bishop's coat.
